Spanish cinema, guest of honor at the Miami Ibero-American Film Festival in 2024

ANDspain will be the guest country in the sixth edition of the Iberoamerican Film Festival of Miami (IAFFM), which will be held from February 2 to 10, 2024 and will showcase a “rich and diverse” sample of her cinematography and will feature the presence of the Spanish actress Carmen MauraThe organization reported this Thursday.

«I feel very excited to be at the doors of the sixth edition. It hasn’t been an easy road. This year we have more festival days and many more things on the program», Colombian Fernando Arciniega, director of the IAFFM, told EFE.

A special edition

Arciniega highlighted, in this context, the incorporation of «two strategic allies» such as the Guadalajara Film Festival (Mexico), and also the SANFIC (Santiago International Film Festival), in Santiago, Chile.

The 2024 edition offers the section dedicated to promoting emerging talent in the IAFFM Industry, a section that in its second year promises «grow the market of content and filmmakers and invites all Ibero-American talent.

Among the different categories of the contest, the following stand out: New talents, which rewards productions whose directors present first works or second works; Contemporary Visions (directors with a longer career) and Rainbow Flamingowhich celebrates those productions that involve the LGBTI community, or the category of Animation and Short Film.

The Spanish interpreter Carmen Maura, 77 years old, winner of four Goya awardswho has developed her career both in her native country and in France and Mexico, will be one of the special guests with the screening of her film Like the seafrom the Argentine director Nicolás Gil Lavedraa film in which they also act Zoe Hochbaum and Sofia Galaconfirmed the organization.

Created in 2016 under the name Indie Pasión Festival, the current IAFFM will celebrate its sixth edition in February 2024 with more than 80 films from more than 15 countries that will compete in five categories, a cinematographic event with the best of Spanish-language cinema.

At the presentation event this Thursday at the Mana Common facilities, in downtown Miami, part of the program and the official poster of the festival, designed by Venezuelan Luz María Charlita, were announced. At the launch party, the IAFFM had a flamenco fashion show or catwalk, this time by the well-known Andalusian designer and businesswoman Rocío Peralta and her collections with which she claims these “elegant and feminine” dresses.

The objective of the festival

The IAFFM’s mission is to “unite and disseminate through the seventh art the Ibero-American film community of the 22 nations that comprise itincluding Portugal and Spain,” said a statement.

In these five editions, the IAFFM has earned a prominent place in the Miami film scene with your support for emerging talent and offering a diverse program including IAFFM Industry, Animation and five major categories.

The next edition of this festival also includes a series of workshops, seminars, master classes and opportunities to establish relationships within the film industry.

The most recent edition of this Ibero-American film competition, dedicated to Argentina, was attended by 10,000 during the 6 days it lasted. «We celebrate films from Latin America, Spain and Portugal with a high artistic level» that «communicate meaningful and powerful stories that celebrate the human spirit and our cultures,” adds the organization’s website.
